Yucca baccata

Yucca baccata

Although some people argue that Yuccas are not succulent, most accept them as such. These members of the Agavaceae are robust desert plants, some of which are hardy and these can be grown - and will produce their spectacular blooms - outdoors in the UK. Most require the protection of a glasshouse, but do tend to outgrow their welcome.

The picture of Yucca baccata (the "Banana Yucca") was taken in habitat in Arizona.
